Taj Kumarakom Resort & Spa, Kerala

Taj Kumarakom Resort & Spa is a slice of history, a part of nature and a family estate converted into a resort where staying in one of only 28 exclusive villas or cottages amidst almost 15 acres of natural green cover is quite a unique experience in itself.

The resort takes you back to 1881 when the Baker’s family who are considered the founders of modern Kumarakom set up their residence here. The original bungalow still stands gracefully on the shore of a beautiful lagoon welcoming guests on its historical corridors while the rest of the facilities are distributed across the sprawling grounds most of which are interspersed with century old trees, water bodies and home to many rare species of animals with the Kumarakom bird sanctuary being only next door.

As a homage to its origins, the resort retains its colonial character in its design, styling and other appointments including artefacts, attire and décor. The cuisine is a generous mix of Taj signature dishes, comfort food and location inspired farm and backwaters cuisine. As a resort that is relatively small in size, guests get a feel of understated luxury, a soothing opulence and personalized attention from the team.

While the overwhelming impression of the “estate-resort” is that of a calm and relaxing holiday, professionally managed activities from a zip line or a kayaking lesson or a conducted village cycling tour to options of moonlight rafting or houseboats for overnight stays and lunch cruises are carefully interspersed into the stay so that those who seek a little bit of thrill are not going back disappointed.

No Taj holiday is complete without a spa sojourn and at Kumarakom it’s no different. The Jiva Spa here has its root as a half century old Ayurveda centre that has played host to several statesmen and managed by a qualified Ayurveda doctors even today in the role of the Wellness Manager.

Cant remember a better stay in any other hotel before, kudos to Mr.Ashirbad and team for making a Quarantine time to one of the best vacations we had.
This was a great experience overall right from the start of the booking enquiry with Noyal Jacob - Front office in charge , who ensured we understood each and every point we wanted to know ,to the best , to the great reception lead by the GM - Aashirbad , when we checked in and daily two to three calls by Mr.Nabarun Dutta the F n B in charge to check whether we were comfortable and taking feed backs for improvement , to the Chef who calls after every meal to check everything was fine and who generously customised the food based on our requests. Also need to mention Mr Ashirbad passing by every day to check on us as well as being so kind to send us cakes baked at his home by his wife making our stay totally homely. All the support staff from the boys delivering food to the room to the gardener , electrician etc whom we met all were extremely high on customer service .The rooms, the ambience , the food , the view outside all were exemplary.Overall self an family had a great time and we look forward to coming back soon and will be the top on the list of recommendations to any friends who might want to have a stay in Gods Own Country ..All the best to team Taj Kumarakom
