Taj Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Andamans

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Andamans

Occupying 46 acres on the famed Radhanagar Beach at Havelock Island, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Andamans is a luxurious gateway to a globally significant biodiversity hotspot in the Bay of Bengal.

Fringed by strip of mangroves overlooking the beach, the resort is a homage to the secluded Andaman and Nicobar archipelago stretching for 700 Kms from the southern tip of Burma towards the north of Sumatra; a magical medley of rainforests, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, unspoilt beaches and ancient tribal cultures.

After arriving on the island, guests are welcomed with a traditional song by our young Nicobari colleagues. Designed to showcase and nurture the island’s natural resources, the resort is dotted with 50 modern luxury Villas on stilts under a canopy of Coconut and Palmyra trees; a contemporary haven built without cutting off a single tree.

Guests can rest over the massive buttresses of an Andaman Padauk tree, ruminate by the water lily pond after a lavish massage or hit the treadmill at the fitness centre built around a majestic Mahua tree that soars up one level to the Olympic-length infinity swimming pool. The modish, 1580 sq. ft. plus residences in sustainable plantation timber are inspired by the dwellings of the Jarawa tribe.

Wi-fi internet at the lobby ensures connectivity, while our silent and intuitive service creates a bespoke atmosphere for privacy and romance interrupted only the sound of kingfishers and emerald doves. Taj’s commitment to conservation and sustainable luxury in the archipelago is at the core of the resort’s impeccable facilities and services. Along with our own biogas facility, water bottling plant, a reservoir for rainwater harvesting and partial solar energy, we’ve partnered with the Pollution Control Board to keep the island plastic free while developing a plastic collection centre on the mainland. From biodegradable straws and paper to newer tools developed in training sessions with our associates and the islanders, we’re working consistently on reducing carbon footprint on this paradise.

The resort offers a bouquet of fun activities for children that engage them in the marine and terrestrial ecology of the island. Between picking mangoes, mud apples and mulberries at our bountiful orchards to jungle treks, beach picnics, supervised scuba diving and shell-craft lessons at our vibrant Recreational Center with plenty of post-meal snoozes on villa decks, there isn’t a dull moment for young and curious minds. Meanwhile, adults can dive into sensational dining experiences at our concept restaurants – Turtle House, Shoreline, The Settlers – or luxuriate in beauty and wellness treatments in our Jiva Spa.

The island is an endless source of delight and discovery. Unravel the secrets of the outdoors and underwater life with exclusive experiences in Sport Fishing, Night Kayaking in the mangroves, Scuba Diving, Snorkelling and Forest Treks.

Great place for a family holiday
Taj has developed a beautiful property in Havelock in the Andaman rain forests retaining most of the indigenous old trees and on one of the best beaches (Radhanagar) in the island. Room sizes are large and there is no dearth of space in and around the cottages. There are enough activities for the kids to indulge in and I believe some more are likely to be added in the near future.Good snorkeling spots are swimming distance from the resort. The staff are totally committed to making your stay very comfortable making every effort to meet all your quirky needs. Special mention for commendable service are the GM Brij and F&B Payal who are always on the move to ensure that all the guests are taken care of. Settlers dining experience is quite an experience but to my mind a little overpriced. All in all we had a great time at the resort and so did our grand children who thoroughly enjoyed their time at Taj Andamans

Above and Beyond!
We stayed for 4 nights this January at the Taj and it was by far one of the most memorable stays. Upon arrival we were greeted with a drink of tender coconut and a welcome song performed by Karishma, Brij and the team and instantly made to feel at home. The villa was exquisite in every aspect, with ample space, extremely comfortable bed, and a sumptuous bathroom. Kusum, our housekeeper kept the villa in perfect shape. The location could not be better! You are just steps away from the amazing Radhanagar beach with jaw dropping sunsets (and the Taj organizes sundowners on the beach). We were treated with utmost care by Vavya and Parul at the shoreline restaurant, and Mohit and his peers at Turtle House. The breakfast was scrumptious (and we regret missing several due to super early scuba schedule). Service was at the level you expect from a Taj property. They left no stone unturned to make you feel at home. Vikas from in house dining attended to every little whim and idiosyncrasy we had, even to point of getting us French press coffee before our super early morning Kayak adventure! The Jiva spa, as usual, was excellent. The onsite dive shop Lacadives (esp Suki, Prthivi and his team) helped arrange six scuba dives for us as well a night kayaking experience to see bioluminescence (must do!). Our Kayak guide Mayank was super knowledgeable and passionate about nature. The overall experience of staying at this Taj was smooth, and Karishma ran the entire operation very ably. Now the constructive feedback: although breakfast offerings, and appetizers on the menu were excellent, we felt that both restaurants can improve upon the quality of the mains - they were above average, yet they lacked authenticity, and did not quite portray the finesse that I used to at the other Taj restaurants.

Out of the world
Had a wonderful time in the resort....would love to come back. Enjoyed every aspect of Resort's hospitality and facilities. The villa's have been done in the most amazing way, very spacious, ultra modern & chic simultaneously retaining their warmth and romance - full marks to house keeping as well (special mention to the attendant - 'Gaya' for all his tireless efforts). The resort offers rooms for guest with limited mobility / differently abled. The foliage and greenery in the resort has a very calming effect (all the original trees, many 100 years old) have been retained as is - though the water bodies can be improved with their surroundings made smarter. The breakfast buffet spread is outstanding with hot n fresh preparations coming out very quickly. The food quality, taste and presentation, in-room dining were very good too - probably the Executive Chef - Anal's sharp eye and hands-on supervision makes all the difference. Though the entire F&B staff team were outstanding, I would like to make a special mention of 'Anil' (a very smart, sharp and extremely soft-spoken resource) in the restaurant, who made our stay memorable. The resort offers complementary by-cycles that too in abundance - so you can pick one and park keep in your villa during your entire stay (we had borrowed three) - one advise to readers, kindly keep n use the by-cycles nicely as if they are your own. The resort offers high tea at the Beach for the sun set, which is the highlight of the stay, very thoughtfully curated finger snacks with tea and some cold options (the menu changes daily). I guess the entire team of the GM - Brij Rajpali (ably supported by Anal and Subbaiah) has been amazing, his eye for every detail and constant interaction with guest (to make them feel welcome and comfortable), has led to the resort being where it stands (and that too so early in its lifecycle). Special mention to Vellappan too (from the IT back office) for going out of his way to connect our laptop and phones and also to give us a separate and fast wifi temporarily to enable us to book our ferry tickets. Now a few pointers too: 1. Add a few colours and fun factor to the pool side (its huge with a full 50 meter length) to make it a fun place; 2. The pool side restaurant is a great place to hang out in evening with live music, kindly consider to add more finger food items on the menu to make it a popular place to sit and have drinks; 3. Immediately add a ramp / wheelchair access to the main lobby; 4. Add lift signages to the restaurant and main lobby too; 5. Add a Table Tennis Table in the kids area - is a must do; 6. Some of the walkways / paths leading to the villas are in need of urgent re-lay / repairs. Can be both dangerous and detrimental to the health of knees of the persons using them (both guests as well as your hotel staff); 7. May consider to add another toilet seat in the bathrooms (which are huge and beautiful done); 8. Get the beach shower area paved.
